Identification:

-Solitary, single trunk with a dense globular canopy
-Fan shape leaf, costapalmate, 4-6 feet long, lustrous emerald-green, sharp brown spines along petiole
- Stout gray trunk, closely ringed with leaf scars

 
Note:  The Chinese Fan Palm has a very slow growth rate and remains trunkless for many years.  For this reason it can be used as a large shrub form.
